The Chancellor must include funding for fair pay for nursing staff in the Budget

In the House of Commons on 10 October, the Secretary of State for Health said the 1% cap on increases to public sector pay has been scrapped

This is a positive first step, but the UK Government must now go further and show that it truly values nursing staff by making money available in the Budget on 22 November for governments across the UK to fund for a real-terms pay rise.

A pay award above inflation, fully funded in the Budget, is essential to begin to close the 14% gap between nursing pay and the cost of living, created by years of real-terms pay cuts.

Ask your MP to write to the Chancellor of the Exchequer Philip Hammond ahead of the Budget, calling on him to include funding for a fair pay award his budget statement, and to ensure that any pay rise is not funded by cuts elsewhere to the NHS.
