Ask your MP to support the early day motion on nursing pay

Margaret Ritchie MP has tabled an early day motion (EDM) on nursing pay. It calls on MPs to recognise the vital contribution of nursing staff; to scrap the 1% cap on nursing pay and to award the pay rise you deserve.

What is an EDM?

MPs table EDMs to shine a light on a particular cause. As more MPs sign this EDM, it will demonstrate the level of parliamentary support for our cause.

Why is it important that my MP supports this EDM?

MPs debated nursing pay in Parliament on 30 January. The EDM will help to maintain momentum among MPs, and keep the pressure on the government before the Pay Review Body makes its recommendation to the government in late February or early March.

What next?

Please enter your postcode and follow the instructions to send a template email to your MP. Remember to make your letter personal to you. You may wish to consider:

  • How has pay restraint affected you and your family?
  • Have you had to make tough choices on family spending because your pay isn’t enough to cover your outgoings?
  • How does the poor pay you receive make you feel about nursing, and how has this damaged staff morale?

Alternatively, you may wish to contact your MP on Twitter, or arrange a meeting with them. Information about doing so can be found here.
