Scrap the 1% cap on nursing pay

On Monday 30 January, MPs will debate the 1% cap on nursing pay that has been in place since 2010. In this time nursing staff have suffered unjust and harsh pay restraint. For most, pay has fallen by at least 14% in real terms, and some nursing staff are now relying on foodbanks and second jobs, just to make ends meet.

We call on the government to scrap the 1% cap and to award hardworking and highly skilled NHS nursing staff with an above inflation pay rise.

Please ask your MP to attend the debate, using the form below. Remember to make your letter personal to you. You may wish to consider:

  • How has pay restraint affected you and your family?
  • Have you had to make tough choices on family spending because your pay isn’t enough to cover your outgoings?
  • How does the poor pay you receive make you feel about nursing, and how has this damaged staff morale?
